Once again, we will join Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church in Oviedo for the service of “Seven Last Words of Jesus.” Nancy and Paul, as well as other area pastors, will speak.

A fish fry follows the service.

Good Friday Evening Tenebrae Service

It is easy to go from the celebration of Palm Sunday to the rejoicing of Easter and skip right past the cost of our sin and God’s great love that is revealed at the cross. Please join with other Oviedo Christians as we encounter God's great love demonstrated in Christ's suffering.

This is love: not that we loved God,
but that he loved us and sent his Son
as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
1 John 4:10

The ancient Tenebrae service dates back to the early years of the church. Coming from the Latin word meaning “shadows,” Tenebrae depicts, through the extinguishing of candles and the dimming of lights, the suffering and death of Jesus.

It is a service to experience, reflect, and remember. Through the service scripture will be read, silence will invite reflection, music will engage our attention, and as we do so we walk with Jesus to his cross and look upon him in his death.
